We should be persons with integrity and not with authority.” - Sir Franz
A principle imparted by Mr Franz Kleven Claracay during the Leadership Training Seminar 2014 sponsored by the Supreme Student Council last June 5-6 at LCBA Multi-Purpose Hall and Aquatico Royale Resort, Bucal, Calamba City.
With this year’s theme “Quantum Leap: The Call for Leaders to Rise to Greatness”, the members of the Council of Student Leaders were exposed to different activities that improved and enhanced the leadership skills of the leaders.
The participants of this year’s LTS were divided into ten groups namely: Red Horse, Flappy Berde, paMINT-aahh, Pink Spartans, Yellow Flash, BLUEtooth, Orange Inmates, Boom Talong, PEACH Perfect and Gray Wolf.
L.I.F.E. Seminar
A lecture was given to the participants concerning different aspects of life and how an individual will have a meaningful life. It was divided into two parts. The first part was conducted at LCBA-MPH and the other one happened on the resort.
Mr. Franz, LifeBox’s Coach, talked about LIFE to the participants L - Leadership, I - Integrity, F - Faith, and E - Excellence.
Truly the talk about L.I.F.E. enlightened the minds of the participants who now have clear visions of where they are going as student leaders of their respective departments and organizations.
A lunch we’ll never forget
Still together with their respective groups, the participants had their lunch in the quadrangle after having a seminar. They ate the different foods prepared by the different organizations who participated in the LTS.
Amazing race
After the participants ate their lunch, they are instructed to place their things together in one plastic bag and prepare for the race. As part of the activity, each group was tasked to prepare a short yell to be performed before the race begins. The race covers different places that will take the groups to the resort where the last part of the LTS is going to happen. In every place they go, or commonly known as stations, the groups are given a clue on where the next station will be and a puzzle piece which were to be formed on the last station. In every station, each group is required to present their yells.
Let the race begin…
The groups take their way to take a tour around the Science Bldg. of the campus to search and complete the letters of the word TEAMWORK as the first challenge of the amazing race. In order to put difficulty on the activity, the facilitators of the game tied the right foot of each member of a group while searching for the letters scattered over the Science Bldg.
Second stop of the race is along the streets of St. John Colleges. In this station, the groups were asked to pass through a hula-hoop without touching by any parts of the body the hula-hoop.
Third stop is on a waiting shed near Calamba Institute where each group was asked to write a word. The activity was difficult because in order to write the word, each group needs five members who will hold a piece of yarn connected to a marker and should have cooperation and coordination in order to write the required word.
The fourth station is located in Villa Remedios’ Arc near Puregold Halang. Groups were given three triangular tubes, a plastic glass, and a jolen (marble). Each group needs to pass the ball through the triangular tubes and should reach the plastic glass almost one meter away.
The next station is found in Spring Homes, Bucal. In this station, the members of the group were tasked to transfer a ball to a little pail by means of breathing.
Vanessa Homes was the place where the participants can find the sixth station. The activity that awaits the participants is inserting eight needles into a ‘sinulid’ by using only one part of the ‘sinulid’.
The last station is located in front of the gate of South Spring Villas where the resort is located. In this station, selected members of the group are to drink something (vegetable juice) based on what they will pick on the lottery. After drinking the juice, they need to fix the puzzle.
Add-ons
In order to get additional points, the SSC prepared additional activities as the participants enter the subdivision to get into the resort. It includes spinning a hula-hoop five times in each of the member of the groups, shooting a jolen in a hole and especially reciting the Mission/Vision Statement and Hymn of our beloved school, LCBA.
Lights, camera, drama!
As part of the Culminating Activity of the LTS 2K14, the Council gave an activity named Sine Mo ‘To, version of the segment Sine Mo ‘To in It’s Showtime! Each group were asked to pick a number with corresponding video clip that they [each group] need to imitate. Some of the video clips came from the movie It Takes a Man and a Woman, Sisterakas, Pano na Kaya, TV Commercial Nesfruita and TeleDrama like The Legal Wife and Husband’s Lover. The BLUE-tooth Team won the segment for giving the viewers a total comedy-like imitating a clip from the movie Sisterakas.
LTS Super Sireyna 2014
In order to add color to the late night of the student leaders, the organizer of the event come with the Super Sireyna, a pageant that makes male participants into a lady. Each group gave their respective candidate. The pageant is composed of two segments, the long gown and question and answer. In long-gown segment, the candidates need to come up with a dress made up of the things that can be found in their rooms.
The candidate from Red Horse, Mark Niño Robiso grabbed the title “Queen of LTS 2K14” followed by Lyle Villacorte from Pink Spartans as 1st Runner-up and Don Padin (Boom Talong) and Alden Veloria (BLUE-tooth) on the 2nd and 3rd Runner-up.
1,2,3 Freeze!
While waiting for the dinner prepared by the SSC, the participants entertained themselves in the game “Paint me a Picture”. In the activity, each group is required to have a representative; they are grouped into two and were asked to portray a scene.
Awarding ceremony
The awarding ceremony happened last June 13, at the Multi-Purpose Hall. All awards during the LTS were given. The Red Horse team was proclaimed as the over-all champion of the event. Evaluation of the event was also conducted in order to assess the effectiveness of the seminar.
